Updated 26 October 2026. Averages for 2019–2025; 2026 up to 26 October 2026.

In Seville, bad weather has a name and it isn't rain. It's one of the cities on this list with the most heat warnings, and every one of its red days has been for heat.

Seville sits in the Guadalquivir valley, the part of Spain with the most heat warnings, and the bar here is high: yellow needs a forecast high of 38 °C, red 44. Even so, July fills up with warnings, and a good share are orange or red.

The rest of the year it's another city: a few rain and storm warnings in autumn and spring, hardly any cold and no snow at all. If warnings were a weather map, Sevilla would be a red dot in summer and a grey one the rest of the year.

Sevilla has 689,423 inhabitants and sits in the Campiña sevillana warning zone (Sevilla). Warnings are issued for the whole zone: it shares them with 35 other towns, such as Dos Hermanas, Alcalá de Guadaíra and Utrera.

Sevilla's warning zone and its neighbours

AEMET doesn't warn by city but by zone: Sevilla gets the warnings for the Campiña sevillana zone, outlined on the map. The zones around it have their own thresholds and their own warnings.

The best month to go (if you'd rather not see warnings)

Counting warning days and how serious they are, the quietest months in Sevilla are February and April: 0.7 and 2.3 warning days on average. The busiest is July, with 18.

April brings Holy Week and the Feria: at worst, the odd warning for rain or storms.

Summers: the heat

Sevilla has 41 heat-warning days a year (20 of them orange or red). Yellow starts at a forecast high of 38 °C; orange at 40 °C; red at 44 °C.

The heat-warning season usually runs from 28 May to 2 September. The earliest one came on 27 April; the latest, on 29 September.

Red heat days since 2019: 13 August 2021, 14 August 2021, 15 August 2021, 13 July 2022, 14 July 2022, 24 July 2022, 25 July 2022, 26 June 2023, 11 August 2023, 12 August 2025, 16 August 2025, 17 August 2025 and 3 September 2026.

A heat warning in Seville starting at 38 °C says a lot: the warning plan sets the bar by what's usual in each zone, and here it's among the highest in Spain.

Winters: cold, snow and wind

Winter (December to February) brings 6.9 warning days on average: rain (4.7), storms (1.4), wind (1.6) and cold (1.4).

The yellow cold warning starts at lows of −1 °C; red, at −8 °C. Snow, at 2 cm in 24 hours.

Rain and storms

Sevilla has 20 rain-warning days and 14 storm-warning days a year. The months with the most rain warnings are October, March and November.

Here the yellow rain warning starts at 15 mm in an hour or 40 mm in 12 hours; red, at 60 mm or 120 mm.

There hasn't been a single red rain or storm warning since 2019.

Wind, fog and coast

Wind warnings: 4.1 days a year; yellow starts at gusts of 70 km/h.

If you live in Sevilla or are thinking of moving

In short

More warnings than the Spanish median, nearly all for the same thing. If you like heat, Sevilla delivers; if not, plan your summer the way other places plan their winter.

How this was made

Everything comes from the archive of official AEMET warnings that Climaviso has kept since June 2018: each day counts once, at the highest level the zone had. A warning is a forecast, not damage or a measurement, and it's issued for the whole zone, not your street. We don't cover measured temperatures or rainfall: only when, and why, a warning was issued.
