Does it rain during Holy Week in Seville?
Holy Week in Seville, from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Warnings 2019–2026; updated 27 October 2026.
In Seville, watching the sky during Holy Week is almost part of the ritual: one ill-timed cloud can keep a brotherhood's procession indoors. This is what the official warnings say about every Holy Week since 2019: how many days had a warning, what colour and why.

The short answer
In 4 of the 8 years since 2019 there was some warning in Sevilla's zone during Holy Week. For rain or storms, in 4; at orange or red, in 0. The most common reason was storms.
This is not a forecast: it counts how often AEMET warned on those dates in recent years. A warning is a forecast that a threshold will be crossed in the zone, not damage or the rain that fell.
Holy Week in Seville and the weather
Dozens of brotherhoods process during Seville's Holy Week, each on its own route from its church to the Cathedral. The floats carry centuries-old images and embroidered mantles that must not get wet, which is why the sky matters so much: when rain threatens, each brotherhood decides whether to go out, shorten its route or take shelter in another church.
The Madrugá, the night from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday, is the high point and the longest stretch in the street. Below is every Holy Week since 2019, day by day: which days had a warning in the zone, what colour and why, and how the week compares with the weeks around it.
Day by day, year by year
Days of the week, Monday to Sunday.
Each row is a year and each square a day: the colour is that day's highest warning in the zone. The small squares are the 3 days before and after the festival. Hover or tap a square for the date and the reason.
The festival against the weeks around it
During the festival there was a warning on 14% of days; in the three weeks before and after, on 7%. The festival's dates tend to get more warnings than the weeks around them.
Share of days with some warning in the zone, adding up every year since 2019; the colour is each day's highest level.
Which kinds of warning
Years with at least one warning of that kind during the festival; a year can have several.
The most serious days
Since 2019, the festival's dates have had no orange or red warning: the highest level was yellow.

Warnings are for the Campiña sevillana zone, which includes Sevilla: a warning covers the whole zone, not one street or route.
In 2020 and 2021, because of the pandemic, many festivals were cancelled or moved. Here we count warnings on their usual dates.
When a warning is issued in Sevilla's zone

Thresholds for the Campiña sevillana zone in AEMET's warning plan. Storms have no numeric threshold: yellow for strong storms, orange for very strong ones. More in what each colour means.
What each colour means for an outdoor festival
- YellowWeather that isn't unusual but can affect particular activities, such as an outdoor event or a procession. Keep an eye on updates and on what the organisers say.
- OrangeSignificant risk: unusual weather that can cause damage. This is when organisers may change times or routes, or call events off.
- RedExtraordinary risk: very intense weather. Follow the instructions of Civil Protection and the city council.
If you're going to Holy Week in Seville
- Each brotherhood decides whether to go out, not the warning: a yellow storm warning cancels nothing on its own. Follow what the brotherhoods announce on the day.
- A light raincoat helps more than an umbrella: in the crowd, an umbrella blocks the view and gets in the way.
- The waits are long and Holy Week sometimes falls on hot days: bring water and sun protection.
