Camino del Cid weather: warnings stage by stage, month by month

Camino del Cid, Vivar del Cid to València, in 14 stages. Warnings 2019–2025; updated 27 October 2026.

The Camino del Cid follows the Cantar de mio Cid from Vivar, near Burgos, to València, through Castile, Aragon and inland Castellón. It's an inland route and, by warnings, one of the busier ones: almost all its zones get more warning days than Spain's typical zone. This is what the official warnings say, stretch by stretch and month by month.

It's fourteen stretches through four regions: Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Aragon and the Valencian Community. For each one we count the warning days in the zones it crosses, and add them up month by month.

April and October are the best months. January is the busiest, with cold and wind, and July and August bring heat and storms. In March, November and December snow is among the top reasons for a warning.

Snow weighs most in the Ibérica de Burgos, between Covarrubias and San Esteban de Gormaz, and in Albarracín y Jiloca, around Teruel. In the last eight years there have been red warnings on the route for cold and snow, such as on 9 and 12 January 2021; for heat, such as on 9 August 2019; and for rain and storms, such as on 18 and 19 October 2018 or 29 October 2024.

The Camino del Cid's warning zones

AEMET doesn't warn by village but by zone. The Camino del Cid crosses 9 warning zones, each with its own thresholds and warnings: on the same day one section can have a warning and the next none.

Tips for the Camino del Cid

Frequently asked questions

What's the best month to drive the Camino del Cid?

By warnings, October: on average, 1.5 warning days if you drive the 14 stretches that month. Then April and May. The month with the most warnings is January, with 6.3 days.

Which section of the Camino del Cid gets the most rain warnings?

Towards València: on average, a rain warning on 10% of days, mostly in June, August and September.

Does the Camino del Cid get hot enough for warnings in summer?

In July and August, the section with the most heat warnings is Aragon: a heat warning on 31% of days, on average.

Can it snow on the Camino del Cid?

Yes, above all on the mountain sections: snow warnings bunch up in the Ibérica de Burgos, Albarracín y Jiloca and Sistema Central de Soria zones, in January, March and November. There, yellow needs 5 cm in 24 hours.

What should I do if there's a warning on my route?

A yellow warning calls for attention, not cancelling: check the forecast and the DGT road status before setting off. With snow or strong wind, avoid mountain passes and mountain roads. With orange or red, follow Civil Protection's advice and put the stretch off if you can.

This is not a forecast: it counts the warnings AEMET issued on those dates in past years. A warning is a forecast that a threshold will be crossed in the zone, not damage.
