Camino de Levante weather: warnings stage by stage, month by month

Camino de Levante, València to Zamora, in 28 stages. Warnings 2019–2025; updated 27 October 2026.

The Camino de Levante leaves València, crosses La Mancha, passes through Toledo and Ávila and reaches Zamora, where it joins the Vía de la Plata. It's an inland route with a tough summer: heat and storms are the warnings that weigh most, and by warnings it's a little busier than the Camino Francés. This is what the official warnings say, stage by stage and month by month.

2019 to 2025

It's many stages through four regions: the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid and Castilla y León. Here we count, for each one, the warning days in the zones it crosses, and add them up month by month.

February and April are the calmest months. July and August are the busiest, with heat and storms; January also stands out, with cold and wind warnings, and June brings storms and the first heat.

Over the last eight years the route has had red-warning days in every season: for example 9 January 2021, for snow on almost every stage; 14 August 2021, for storms and heat; 29 October 2024, for rain, storms and wind; or 17 August 2025, for heat along the whole route.

The Camino de Levante's warning zones

AEMET doesn't warn by village but by zone. The Camino de Levante crosses 14 warning zones, each with its own thresholds and warnings: on the same day one section can have a warning and the next none.

The Camino de Levante section by section

València: València – La Font de la Figuera

Near the coast, rain is the top reason for a warning, with storms and heat behind it. Climbing towards Xàtiva and Moixent you enter the Interior sur de Valencia zone, the one with the most wind warnings on the whole Camino de Levante.

Most common: rain, storms and heat. Most warnings in August and July; fewest in February and April.

Albacete: La Font de la Figuera – San Clemente

Between Almansa and San Clemente heat is in charge, especially in July and August. La Mancha albaceteña is the zone with the most warning days on the whole route, and one of those with the most heat warnings.

Most common: heat, storms and rain. Most warnings in July and August; fewest in February and April.

La Mancha and Toledo: San Clemente – Torrijos

From San Clemente to Torrijos is the calmest section of the Camino de Levante. Even so, heat is the top reason for a warning, and in the Tagus valley around Toledo heat warnings are frequent even though the yellow threshold is 38 °C.

Most common: heat, storms and rain. Most warnings in July and August; fewest in February and April.

Ávila: Torrijos – Arévalo

Here the route changes character. In western Madrid, in the Sur, Vegas y Oeste zone, heat warnings are the most frequent on the whole route, and a few stages later, in the Sistema Central de Ávila, come the snow ones: it's the route's zone with by far the most snow warnings, and its threshold is 5 cm.

Most common: heat, rain and storms. Most warnings in July and August; fewest in May and April.

Valladolid and Zamora: Arévalo – Zamora

Across the Duero plateau to Zamora, heat and storms bring the summer warnings, and fog brings warnings too. January and July are the busiest months here; April and October the calmest.

Most common: heat, storms and fog. Most warnings in January and July; fewest in April and October.

Tips for the Camino de Levante

Frequently asked questions

What's the best month to walk the Camino de Levante?

By warnings, February: on average, 2.5 warning days if you walk the 28 stages that month. Then April and May. The month with the most warnings is July, with 12 days.

Which section of the Camino de Levante gets the most rain warnings?

València: on average, a rain warning on 9% of days, mostly in March, May and September.

Does the Camino de Levante get hot enough for warnings in summer?

In July and August, the section with the most heat warnings is Albacete: a heat warning on 48% of days, on average.

Can it snow on the Camino de Levante?

Yes, above all on the mountain sections: snow warnings bunch up in the Sistema Central de Ávila, Meseta de Ávila and La Mancha albaceteña zones, in January, March and December. There, yellow needs 5 cm in 24 hours.

What should I do if there's a warning on my stage?

A yellow warning calls for attention, not cancelling: check the forecast, set off early if it's for heat and have a plan B for storms or snow on a pass. With orange or red, follow Civil Protection's and the hostels' advice, and consider shortening or changing the stage.

This is not a forecast: it counts the warnings AEMET issued on those dates in past years. A warning is a forecast that a threshold will be crossed in the zone, not damage.
