Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival, from the opening parade to Piñata Sunday. Warnings 2019–2026; updated 27 October 2026.
The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is one of the biggest in the world and happens almost entirely in the street. This is what the official warnings say about every Carnival since 2019: how many days had a warning, what colour and why.

The short answer
In 4 of the 8 years since 2019 there was some warning in Santa Cruz de Tenerife's zone during the Carnival. For rain or storms, in 2; at orange or red, in 0. The most common reason was wind.
This is not a forecast: it counts how often AEMET warned on those dates in recent years. A warning is a forecast that a threshold will be crossed in the zone, not damage or the rain that fell.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival and the weather
The big street days run from the opening parade, on a Friday, to Piñata Sunday, through the daytime Carnival, Tuesday's Coso parade and the Burial of the Sardine. That's ten days of dancing, murgas and comparsas in the centre of Santa Cruz.
The dates usually follow Easter, but not always: in 2022, because of the pandemic, the Carnival was held in June, and the 2027 edition has been pushed back two weeks. We count each edition's real dates here; in 2021 there was no Carnival and we count its usual dates.
Day by day, year by year
Days of the week, Monday to Sunday.
Each row is a year and each square a day: the colour is that day's highest warning in the zone. The small squares are the 3 days before and after the festival. Hover or tap a square for the date and the reason.
The festival against the weeks around it
During the festival there was a warning on 15% of days; in the three weeks before and after, on 10%: the festival's dates don't stand out from the weeks around them.
Share of days with some warning in the zone, adding up every year since 2019; the colour is each day's highest level.
Which kinds of warning
Years with at least one warning of that kind during the festival; a year can have several.
The most serious days
Since 2019, the festival's dates have had no orange or red warning: the highest level was yellow.

Warnings are for the Área metropolitana de Tenerife zone, which includes Santa Cruz de Tenerife: a warning covers the whole zone, not one street or route.
In 2020 and 2021, because of the pandemic, many festivals were cancelled or moved. Here we count warnings on their usual dates.

What each colour means for an outdoor festival
- YellowWeather that isn't unusual but can affect particular activities, such as an outdoor event or a procession. Keep an eye on updates and on what the organisers say.
- OrangeSignificant risk: unusual weather that can cause damage. This is when organisers may change times or routes, or call events off.
- RedExtraordinary risk: very intense weather. Follow the instructions of Civil Protection and the city council.
If you're going to Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival
- With a wind warning, take care around stages and structures; follow what the city council announces.
- With calima, the air fills with dust: if you have breathing problems, avoid exertion outdoors.
- It's a night-time carnival with huge crowds: agree a fixed meeting point with your group.
- Check AEMET's forecast in the days before and your zone's warnings on the Climaviso map.
The next edition
Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2027: 19–28 February. 115 days to go.
AEMET's forecast for those dates comes out only a few days ahead: today nobody can know what the weather will be. What we do know is how previous years went.
