Camino Catalán weather: warnings stage by stage, month by month

Camino Catalán, Barcelona to Santa Cilia, in 16 stages. Warnings 2019–2025; updated 27 October 2026.

This Camino Catalán leaves Barcelona, passes Montserrat, crosses the provinces of Lleida and Huesca and joins the Camino Aragonés at Santa Cilia. Its bad weather is mostly a summer thing: heat and storms in July and August, with the Lleida lands and southern Huesca the section with the most heat warnings. This is what the official warnings say, stage by stage and month by month.

2019 to 2025

It's many stages through two regions, Catalonia and Aragon. Here we count, for each one, the warning days in the zones it crosses, and add them up month by month.

March and October are the best months to walk it. The busiest are July and August, for heat and storms; June, for storms and rain; and January, for cold and fog.

Some red days have covered the whole Camino, such as 28 June 2019 for heat, or 29 June 2023 and 12 July 2025 for rain and storms. In winter, red has come with snow and wind, such as 7 and 8 December 2024.

The Camino Catalán's warning zones

AEMET doesn't warn by village but by zone. The Camino Catalán crosses 7 warning zones, each with its own thresholds and warnings: on the same day one section can have a warning and the next none.

Lleida: La Panadella – Tamarite de Litera

Most common: heat, rain and storms. Most warnings in July and August; fewest in March and October.

Huesca: Tamarite de Litera – Santa Cilia

Tips for the Camino Catalán

Frequently asked questions

What's the best month to walk the Camino Catalán?

By warnings, March: on average, 1.7 warning days if you walk the 16 stages that month. Then October and February. The month with the most warnings is August, with 7.3 days.

Which section of the Camino Catalán gets the most rain warnings?

Barcelona and Montserrat: on average, a rain warning on 11% of days, mostly in May, August and September.

Does the Camino Catalán get hot enough for warnings in summer?

In July and August, the section with the most heat warnings is Lleida: a heat warning on 45% of days, on average.

Can it snow on the Camino Catalán?

Yes, above all on the mountain sections: snow warnings bunch up in the Pirineo oscense, Centro de Huesca and Depresión central de Barcelona zones, in January, February and December. There, yellow needs 5 cm in 24 hours.

What should I do if there's a warning on my stage?

A yellow warning calls for attention, not cancelling: check the forecast, set off early if it's for heat and have a plan B for storms or snow on a pass. With orange or red, follow Civil Protection's and the hostels' advice, and consider shortening or changing the stage.

This is not a forecast: it counts the warnings AEMET issued on those dates in past years. A warning is a forecast that a threshold will be crossed in the zone, not damage.
