Camí de Cavalls weather: warnings stage by stage, month by month

Camí de Cavalls, Maó to Maó, in 4 stages. Warnings 2019–2025; updated 27 October 2026.

The Camí de Cavalls, the GR 223, goes all the way round Menorca along its coast, from Maó back to Maó by way of Fornells, Ciutadella and Cala Galdana. All of Menorca is a single AEMET warning zone, so every section shares the same warnings. This is what the official warnings say, section by section and month by month.

Here the loop is split into four sections, grouped into north and south. Since the whole island is one zone, all four have exactly the same warning days: what changes from one section to the next is the scenery, not the warnings. The Menorca zone is slightly above the median Spanish zone for warning days.

May and April are the calmest months. The busiest are November, with rain and wind, and September, with rain and storms; in July and August the top reason for a warning is heat, and in winter, wind. In Menorca the yellow threshold is 70 km/h for gusts and 36 °C for heat.

In the last eight years there have been two red days, both in August: 15 August 2024, for rain and storms, and 21 August 2026, for rain, storms and wind.

The Camí de Cavalls's warning zones

AEMET doesn't warn by village but by zone. The Camí de Cavalls crosses 1 warning zones, each with its own thresholds and warnings: on the same day one section can have a warning and the next none.

Tips for the Camí de Cavalls

Frequently asked questions

What's the best month to walk the Camí de Cavalls?

By warnings, May: on average, 0.2 warning days if you walk the 4 stages that month. Then April and February. The month with the most warnings is November, with 1.2 days.

Which section of the Camí de Cavalls gets the most rain warnings?

North: on average, a rain warning on 8% of days, mostly in September, October and November.

Does the Camí de Cavalls get hot enough for warnings in summer?

In July and August, the section with the most heat warnings is North: a heat warning on 18% of days, on average.

What should I do if there's a warning on my stage?

A yellow warning calls for attention, not cancelling: check the forecast, set off early and, if it's for storms, finish the stage before the afternoon. With snow or strong wind on a col, wait or take the low variant. With orange or red, follow Civil Protection's and the mountain huts' advice, and don't go up.

This is not a forecast: it counts the warnings AEMET issued on those dates in past years. A warning is a forecast that a threshold will be crossed in the zone, not damage.
