Camino Jacobeo del Ebro, Deltebre to Logroño, in 17 stages. Warnings 2019–2025; updated 27 October 2026.

The Camino Jacobeo del Ebro follows the river upstream from the delta at Deltebre, passes through Zaragoza and reaches Logroño, where it joins the Camino Francés. It's one of the pilgrim routes with the most warnings: wind on the lower Ebro, heat in the Aragonese valley and storms in summer. This is what the official warnings say, stage by stage and month by month.

2019 to 2025

It's stages through four regions: Catalonia, Aragón, Navarre and La Rioja. Here we count, for each one, the warning days in the zones it crosses, and add them up month by month.

October and February are the calmest months. July and August are the busiest, with heat and storms, and June is busy too. In winter wind is the most common warning, with fog in December and January.

Over the last eight years the route's red-warning days have come mostly in summer: for example 28 to 30 June 2019, for heat, or 16 and 17 August 2025, for heat and storms on every stage. There have also been some in autumn, such as 18 and 19 October 2018, for rain, storms and wind, and in winter, on 9 and 10 January 2021, for snow.

The Camino Jacobeo del Ebro's warning zones

AEMET doesn't warn by village but by zone. The Camino Jacobeo del Ebro crosses 6 warning zones, each with its own thresholds and warnings: on the same day one section can have a warning and the next none.

The Camino Jacobeo del Ebro section by section

Delta and Terra Alta: Deltebre – Gandesa

The first stages, as far as Gandesa, have the most warnings on the whole route, and wind is the top reason: the southern Tarragona pre-coastal zone, around Tortosa and Xerta, is the route's most-warned zone. Here winter weighs more than summer: December and November are the busiest months.

Most common: wind, rain and storms. Most warnings in December and November; fewest in May and April.

Bajo Aragón: Gandesa – El Burgo de Ebro

Entering Aragón through Fabara and Caspe, heat becomes the top reason for a warning, with storms and wind behind it. The Ebro valley zone of Zaragoza is the route's zone with the most heat warnings.

Most common: heat, storms and wind. Most warnings in July and August; fewest in October and February.

Zaragoza: El Burgo de Ebro – Gallur

Through Zaragoza, Alagón and Gallur you stay in the same zone: heat and storms in July and August, and wind in winter. October and February are the calmest months.

Most common: heat, storms and wind. Most warnings in July and August; fewest in October and February.

Navarre and La Rioja: Gallur – Logroño

From Gallur to Logroño is the calmest section of the route. Storms become the top reason for a warning, and along the Ebro in Navarre and La Rioja wind warnings are far less frequent than downstream.

Most common: storms, heat and rain. Most warnings in July and August; fewest in October and April.

Which section of the Camino Jacobeo del Ebro gets the most rain warnings?

Delta and Terra Alta: on average, a rain warning on 8% of days, mostly in August, September and October.

In July and August, the section with the most heat warnings is Bajo Aragón: a heat warning on 47% of days, on average.

Yes, above all on the mountain sections: snow warnings bunch up in the Ribera del Ebro de La Rioja, Prelitoral sur de Tarragona and Depresión central de Tarragona zones, in January, February and March. There, yellow needs 2 cm in 24 hours.

What should I do if there's a warning on my stage?

A yellow warning calls for attention, not cancelling: check the forecast, set off early if it's for heat and have a plan B for storms or snow on a pass. With orange or red, follow Civil Protection's and the hostels' advice, and consider shortening or changing the stage.

This is not a forecast: it counts the warnings AEMET issued on those dates in past years. A warning is a forecast that a threshold will be crossed in the zone, not damage.
