Camino Aragonés weather: warnings stage by stage, month by month

Camino Aragonés, Somport to Puente la Reina, in 6 stages. Warnings 2019–2025; updated 27 October 2026.

The Camino Aragonés crosses the Pyrenees at Somport, drops down to Jaca and heads west to join the Camino Francés at Puente la Reina. It's short, but by warnings it's one of the busiest pilgrim routes, with far more than the Francés. This is what the official warnings say, stage by stage and month by month.

2019 to 2025

It's six stages through three warning zones: the Huesca Pyrenees, the Cinco Villas of Zaragoza and central Navarre. All three get more warnings than Spain's typical zone, and the Huesca Pyrenees far more. Here we count, for each stage, the warning days in the zones it crosses, and add them up month by month.

October and April are the calmest months. In winter cold and snow dominate; in summer, heat and storms, and June, July and August are among the busiest months, along with January.

In the last eight years there have been red days for heat (28 to 30 June 2019), for wind and snow (27 and 28 November 2021) and others: 16 and 17 January 2023, 21 September and 7 and 8 December 2024, and 17 August 2025.

The Camino Aragonés's warning zones

By warnings, October: on average, 1.0 warning days if you walk the 6 stages that month. Then April and May. The month with the most warnings is August, with 2.7 days.

Which section of the Camino Aragonés gets the most rain warnings?

Pyrenees and Canal de Berdún: on average, a rain warning on 14% of days, mostly in June, August and September.

In July and August, the section with the most heat warnings is Pyrenees and Canal de Berdún: a heat warning on 31% of days, on average.

Can it snow on the Camino Aragonés?

Yes, above all on the mountain sections: snow warnings bunch up in the Pirineo oscense, Centro de Navarra and Cinco Villas de Zaragoza zones, in January, March and December. There, yellow needs 5 cm in 24 hours.

What should I do if there's a warning on my stage?

A yellow warning calls for attention, not cancelling: check the forecast, set off early if it's for heat and have a plan B for storms or snow on a pass. With orange or red, follow Civil Protection's and the hostels' advice, and consider shortening or changing the stage.

This is not a forecast: it counts the warnings AEMET issued on those dates in past years. A warning is a forecast that a threshold will be crossed in the zone, not damage.
